The remaining alien vessel tries to communicate with the Enterprise and is determined to be an ally. The battle section of the Enterprise breaks through the gateway with help from the aliens. The Hornet is boarded by the hostile aliens looking for information stored in databanks. The Enterprise rescues the Hornet, but not without losses, and the gateway is destroyed.
