Thebes was a city in Egypt, on Earth. It served as the capital city of the Kingdom of Egypt, with some interruptions, from the 21st century BCE to the 11th century BCE.

Parneb of Thebes lived as an old man in the city, where he served as construction boss to Pharoah Ramses III, and master architect to five other Egyptian monarchs.

Parneb, under the name Mahmoud Gamal al-Parneb Nezaj, continued to live in Thebes in 2045, when his experiments in time manipulation accidentally caused the temporal dislocation of James T. Kirk, Spock and three other USS Enterprise crewmembers to 21st century Earth. In 2284, Spock returned to Thebes, where he rediscovered a peace symbol medallion he had hidden there prior to his return to the present. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)
