Dr. Thetas Akunas was a 23rd century Argelian man, a noted anthropologist from the Federation's Xenological Research Institute.

Biography[]

Thetas authored societal structure textbooks that were required reading in anthropology classes throughout the Federation. He held a doctorate in his field, had black eyes, and was short and overweight.

In the year 2266, he joined fellow institute researchers Dr. L'jian and Enchar T'Krau Shorak on Midgwis to study the foraging humanoid Midgwins. During his time on the planet, Thetas found the Midgwin culture highly refined in terms of social hierarchies, mythology, and music. He also obtained several tattoos on his arms & back, and like his teammates appeared healthy but had lost much of his weight.

In 2268, not long after the Federation starship USS Enterprise dropped off additional team members, a plague erupted in the nearly Walpuk Warren. Not only did the natives' shared consciousness fail to prevent deaths, but some of the sick Midgwin were being eaten by hostile licats. Thetas and his teammates accompanied patriarch Kailin Arxoras to the warren to provide whatever aid they could. (TOS novel: Ghost-Walker)
