See McCoy for other articles with titles that contain, either by relationship or by coincidence, this character's surname.
This character is a member of the McCoy family.

Thomas Jackson McCoy (known as "T.J.") was the Chief of Medicine at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta in the 2220s. He was the father of David Andrew McCoy and the grandfather of legendary Starfleet officer Leonard McCoy. (TOS novel: The Final Reflection)

When Leonard was a child, he accompanied T.J. on a business trip to Las Vegas. On the return trip they visited the Grand Canyon together. (TOS short story: "Make-Believe")

It is possible that T.J. McCoy's middle name is taken from actor DeForest Kelley's birth name: Jackson DeForest Kelley.
