He was born on 3 April 1918, and graduated from Niels Bohr Teaching Institute in 1938 with degrees in physics, electronics, and quantum mechanics.
During World War II, Jarrow served in the anti-Nazi Swedish Underground. During that time, he was captured by German troops, and imprisoned for three years, during which he was severely tortured, resulting in the loss of use of his left arm. In 1956, he emigrated to the United States of America, and by 1968 had joined Project Hercules, an effort to develop enhanced fusion technology.
As of 1968, Jarrow was married and had five children.
In 1968, Christopher Danton introduced Jarrow and fellow scientist Archibald Dumont to Aegis agent Gary Seven and his associate Roberta Lincoln, who posed as scientists overseeing final procedures of the enhanced fusion bomb test. Two days later, Jarrow checked in on Lincoln in the control room just prior to the test. (TOS - Assignment: Earth comic: "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns")
