Thought enhancer

Archivist operating a thought enhancer.

A thought enhancer was a type of 23rd century Klingon image projection technology that gave substance to objects and lifeforms imagined by the operator.

History and specifics[]

Thought enhancer helmet

Spock with the helmet and rescued operator.

The results initially appeared real even to tricorders. A transmission receptor was required at the destination, which materialized the desired objects near intended targets.

In 2273, a prototype enhancer was developed and installed aboard a K't'inga-class battlecruiser for weapons testing. Klingons kidnapped and drugged a horror film archivist with a vivid imagination. A space station was reconfigured as a floating haunted house as bait.

The USS Enterprise was redirected to the haunted house while ferrying a prisoner to Thallus. Prisoner Raytag M'Gora previously had the receptor surgically implanted in his skull, and as the starship approached the station, various monsters began appearing to threaten ship's personnel, including Count Dracula. A landing party explored the station, encountering Frankenstein's monster, a werewolf, witch, bats, and other legendary creatures.

Spock managed to revive the archivist. An overload killed M'gora and redirected the apparitions to materialize aboard the battlecruiser. The archivist and the thought enhancer helmet were recovered and brought to Starbase 16. (TOS comics: "The Haunting of Thallus!", "The Haunting of the Enterprise!")
