The Thrai class was a 23rd century Romulan starship type, a dreadnought warbird class in Imperial Romulan Star Navy service around the 2260s and early 2270s decades. In the 2410s, this class revived as a tier 6-rated dreadnought warbird for the Romulan Republic Navy and non-Republic Khitomer Alliance members. Ships of the class were equipped with a secondary shield projector. (STO website: Reckoning: Undiscovered Lock Box and Lobi Ship Stats)
History and technical specifications[]
23rd century[]
In the 23rd century, the Thrai class was the vessel of choice for Imperial flag officers. (STO website: Reckoning: Undiscovered Lock Box and Lobi Ship Stats)
Ships of the class were present during the breakdown of Commander Chulak's alliance with the 29th century Na'kuhl, leading to the desolation of Galorndon Core by Chulak's planet killer in the mid-23rd century. These battleships were larger and more powerful than the contemporary T'liss-class bird of prey and Khenn-class cruiser. The Thrai-class shared the raptor bird motif painted on the ventral hull. (STO - Yesterday's War mission: "The Core of the Matter")
The Romulan Star Empire built the IRW Thrai around the 2260s as a prototype to compete with the Federation and Klingons. It was the counterpart of Starfleet's Atlas-class dreadnought cruiser and the Klingon Empire's D9 class dreadnought. The Thrai class was equipped with a hangar bay that could deploy Kaleh-class warbirds to aid in combat as fighters. In weaponry, these shuttles were equivalent to Starfleet Class F shuttlecraft and Klingon DuQwl'-class fighters. The Thrai followed the aesthetics of the 2260s-era T'liss-class light warbird and anticipated the double-hulled shape of the 24th century D'deridex-class warbird. It carried a pair of warp nacelles that, alongside a ventral strut housing the impulse engines, connected the upper and lower hulls. The upper hull included a large half-saucer section at the forward end. (STO website: Reckoning: Undiscovered Lock Box and Lobi Ship Stats)
25th century[]

In the aftermath of a new front of the Temporal Cold War opening in the 2410s, Starfleet revived and received ship classes from other centuries. This included reviving 23rd century ship classes like the Thrai. (STO - Yesterday's War mission: "The Once and Future Agent", STO - Reckoning mission: "Explore the Flotilla")
Specifically, the RRW Thrai re-entered service during the conflict between the Khitomer Alliance and the Tzenkethi Coalition in the year 2410, brought on by the Tzenkethi Crusade against worlds of the Alpha Quadrant. (STO website: Reckoning: Undiscovered Lock Box and Lobi Ship Stats)
Typically for starships of the early 23rd century, an Thrai-class vessel was equipped with 23rd century phaser beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers. The weapons layout consisted of mark X-rated plasma emitters, specifically a plasma beam array, plasma dual heavy cannons, plasma dual cannons, a plasma torpedo launcher and a dual plasma beam bank at the fore; a plasma turret, plasma beam array and a plasma torpedo launcher in the aft. It was equipped with impulse engines, a singularity core and, like all 25th century Alliance starships, a quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. Cloaking was an ability. On the Thrai, the cloaking device was configured as a Romulan battle cloak. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - House Reborn missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "The Hunt is On", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
Bridge officer stations allowed for a lieutenant commander pulling double duty as tactical officer and temporal operative, a lieutenant doubling as engineer and command division officer, an engineer holding the rank of commander, a lieutenant science officer and a lieutenant of any department. As a carrier the Thrai was equipped with a carrier commands array. As an Alliance dreadnought warbird, a battle-hardened ship benefitted from absorptive plating, enhanced singularity circuitry, enhanced plating, armored hull and layered shielding. The Thrai was the first ship equipped with the secondary shield projector, which enabled boosting the placing secondary shields around an allied vessel.
