The Thunderchild-class was a class of Federation heavy escort carrier starships in Starfleet service during the early 25th century.

History and specifications[]

Akira class variants — The *Thunderchild* (bottom left) alongside its sister classes.

This class was based on the Akira-class heavy escort. Having a modular spaceframe, its sections (saucer, hull, pylons and nacelles) could be exchanged with their counterparts from the other Akira-based (sub-) classes: Akira-class, Alita-class and Armitage-class, as well as the Norway-class subclass Oslo and the Steamrunner-class subclass Zephyr.

The name of the Thunderchild class Heavy Escort is a tribute to the U.S.S. Thunderchild (NCC-63549) which engaged the Borg in Sector 001.
