Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

A thunderstorm (also called an electrical storm) was a type of storm which discharges electricity to a planet's surface. It takes its name from thunder, the noise generated by the lightning of the storm. The storm typically included rain. (VOY episode: "Cathexis"; TNG novel: Shadows Have Offended)

In the year 2370, a survey team surveying Kota were struck by an intense thunderstorm near their base along one of the planet's coastlines. Though not affected by the storm itself, the intensive rain brought by the storm created flash floods across the lowlands, which resulted in the death of the expedition's commander. (TNG novel: Shadows Have Offended)
