Thymoxamine was a type of anti-anxiety drug available to the Federation in the 24th century.

History and specifics[]

Thymoxamine inhibited the flow of monoamine oxidase in synaptic pathways by blocking the alpha receptor at the pathway site.

In 2371, reserpine was selected over thymoxamine, to treat damaged bioneural gel packs aboard USS Voyager in an attempt to stop systems failures, because it had a gentler effect. (VOY novel: Violations)

Alpha blockers are a real-world class of anti-anxiety medicines. Developed in the 1980s, thymoxamine, a.k.a. moxisylyte, is used in the 21st century primarily as a peripheral vasodilator.
