Tenavik & Pike

Capt. Pike & Timekeeper Tenavik examining the time crystals

The Time Crystals (or poH Qut in Klingonese) was rare type of crystal on Boreth capable of manipulating time and showing premonitions of the future. Most klingons outside of Boreth believed the crystals were a myth and just a symbol of Kahless. However, Kahless' timekeepers knew the truth of the crystals' powers and guarded them with their lives. The only known location was at Boreth's Monastery.(DSC episode: "Through the Valley of Shadows"; Star Trek Explorer Issue 2: "Treknology: Time Travel In Trek")

History[]

In the 23rd century, the Vulcan Science Academy knew of their existence and taught it to their students. However, no federation-aligned were able to stabilize the crystals due to their decay rate, unpredictable nature, and could be used a 4th dimensional race.(DSC episode: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad")

Known applications[]

Project Daedalus[]

In the 2230s, Starfleet's black ops division, Section 31, began the Daedalus Project in order to combat the klingons' time-travel research. One of their operatives, Captain Leland found a time crystal in the black market at the Orion outpost on Qo'noS. He gave the crystal to fellow operative, Dr. Gabrielle Burnham at Doctari Alpha's Research Outpost. There, she built a suit and planned to charge the crystal with a supernova from Alpha Lupi. Unfortunately, the klingons were able to track it and raided the outpost in 2236. After hiding her daughter, Michael, in a closet, Dr. Burnham installed the crystal in her suit and attempted to travel back an hour before the raid.(DSC episodes: "The Red Angel", "Perpetual Infinity", "Through the Valley of Shadows")
