McFarlane's Triskelion art.

Todd McFarlane is a Canadian comic book artist who did three pieces of pin-up art for the DC Comics Who's Who in Star Trek, in "Who's Who in Star Trek, Issue 2", in 1986. Two of the pin-ups were inked by Al Gordon.

Biography[]

These pin-ups were for the bio entries on Orions, the USS Surak and the planet Triskelion. Notably, McFarlane used the wrong reference and drew the Surak as a Miranda-class vessel rather than as a variant Oberth-class starship that was shown in the concurrent comics of the era.

Besides these Star Trek art assignments, McFarlane is well-known as a comic creator who broke away from the major publishers in the early 1990s to become co-founder of the creator-owned comic publisher Image Comics, and creator of the Spawn series. Prior to the Image Comics revolution, McFarlane had made a name for himself illustrating Spider-Man and Incredible Hulk for Marvel Comics, following a run of jobs at DC illustrating Infinity, Inc, Invasion! and Blasters. After much success as a comic book artist, his McFarlane Toys venture took hold of the collectible toy market, including a number of Star Trek releases in the 2010s decade.
