Dix Tommy gun

Dixon Hill firing a Tommy gun.

A Tommy gun, short for Thompson submachine gun, was a type of 20th century machine gun named for its developer, John Thompson, which fired up to 900 bullets per minute. A circular cartridge held either 50 or 100 rounds of ammunition.

History and specifics[]

On a holodeck, a Tommy gun fired forcefield-pulsed lights to simulate bullet strikes. (Last Unicorn RPG - Holodeck Adventures module: Dixon Hill and The Case of the Golden Serpent)

A Piece of the Action

Kirk and Spock with Tommy guns.

In the late 2260s, mobsters and even regular citizens on Sigma Iotia II carried Tommy guns. In 2268, Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock were armed with Tommy guns when they negotiated with young Sonny to help them "hit" Jojo Krako's headquarters. (TOS episode & novelization: A Piece of the Action)

In 2271, robbers wielding Tommy guns attempted a heist at First Security Bank and Trust on Iotia. A flying, caped-wearing man in an exoskeleton suit landed and confronted them. The robbers exhausted their ammo on him, with the spray of bullets knocking him off his feet. When their clips were emptied, he got up and bent their guns into "U" shapes. (FASA RPG module: Another Piece of the Action)

In 2288 on Iotia, Slugo pointed a Tommy gun directly at Kirk's chest. He had been ridiculed about fizzbin for the last 20 years and intended to make a "hit" on the Federation. (TOS - Strange New Worlds V short story: "Legal Action")

In 2367, while defending against a Chirkniz software virus invading the USS Enterprise-D, Minuet employed holographic characters from Dixon Hill programs for assistance. Felix Leech joined her, armed with a Tommy gun. (TNG - Strange New Worlds V short story: "The Monkey Puzzle Box")

In 2373, Captain Jean-Luc Picard activated a Dixon Hill holodeck program without safety protocols during a Borg invasion, so he could defend himself with a Tommy gun. That version of the weapon fired 200 rounds in four seconds. (TNG movie, novelization & comic adaptation: Star Trek: First Contact, CCG set: First Contact, card: "Tommygun")

In 2376, during a problem-solving debate aboard the USS da Vinci, Makk Vinx suggested that a Tommy gun would fix the trouble. Sonya Gomez intended to research what that was. (SCE eBook: Small World)
