A Tondusian strike craft was a type of raider starship in service to the government of the planet Tondus in the 23rd century.

Specifications[]

This type of vessel was capable of interstellar travel, while also having fuel-based sublight propulsion. It was armed with a forward directed energy weapon.

Service history and disposition[]

In the year 2267, as the Starfleet starship USS Enterprise arrived at Tondus for a diplomatic visit, a Tondusian strike craft attacked without warning. Because Ambassador Courteney Marshall had demanded they not raise shields, the raider successfully struck the bottom of the secondary hull, then circled around for another pass. Captain James T. Kirk countermanded Marshall's order, raising shields in time to disperse a shot to the top of the primary hull. Kirk scared the raider off with four photon torpedo warning shots.

Unknown to the Enterprise, the capital city on Tondus had been occupied by Romulan forces. They intended to commandeer the Enterprise, then have it escort a fleet of strike craft through the heart of Federation territory. While seemingly on a peace mission, the fleet would invade Earth.

When Montgomery Scott realized that the ambassador had been an imposter, he launched the ship's shuttles to lead an armed rescue of the landing party on the planet's surface. Five strike craft intercepted the shuttles in the stratosphere and managed to destroy one shuttle, but could not withstand the rest of the shuttle's weapons. (TOS comic: "The Marshall Plan")

The class was described as a raider and strike craft in the comic strip released on 14 March 1970.
