Torias Dax was a joined male Trill who lived in the 23rd century. Torias was the fifth host of the Dax symbiont.

Shortly after being joined, Torias Dax married Nilani Kahn, whom he had met when both were initiates.

He attempted to climb Betazed's Mount Traxanaxanos three times before giving up entirely. (DS9 - Rebels novel: The Conquered)

While working as a pilot, Torias once performed an EVA to repair his meteor-damaged shuttle in low-orbit of Trill, Torias became trapped outside. His environmental suit had malfunctioned, expanding with air, which prevented him from fitting in the shuttle's airlock. He solved the problem by carefully releasing the excess air and successfully entered the shuttle. (DS9 - Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novel: Trill: Unjoined)

Torias died in a shuttlecraft accident in the year 2284. Records of the Trill Symbiosis Commission, however, said Torias survived in a comatose state an additional six months, a falsehood meant to cover-up the subsequent joining of Dax to Joran Belar. (DS9 episodes: "Equilibrium", "Facets", "Rejoined")

Torias was part of the team at the Daystrom Institute that developed the transwarp project, and oversaw initial Starfleet tests of the technology. Torias was critically injured during a test of the technology aboard the shuttlecraft Infinity. After Dax was removed from Torias, Nilani spent his last moments at his bed side. (DS9 - The Lives of Dax short story: "Infinity")

Jadzia Dax remembered Torias as an intense individual with a passionate relationship with his wife Nilani. (DS9 - The Badlands novel: The Badlands, Part IV)
