Torvin was a member of the Hive.

In 2371, Torvin became the science Hivemaster when the Hive split into two vessels and Makarn joined the other Hive. (DS9 novel: Objective: Bajor)

Torvin is originally called Tovin when he first appears but Torvin is later used, as well as in dialogue.
