The Treana was an Orion freighter that had operated in the mid to late 23rd century.

In February, 2268 the Treana was crippled by an unknown gravitational anomaly on the edge of space controlled by the Gorn Hegemony. The freighter sent out a distress call. A Gorn cruiser responded and took the freighter into "protective custody". The Gorn towed the Treana to the border planet of Seudath. The Gorn then started repairs on the Treana as a courtesy, however Starfleet estimated that it was a front so that the Gorn could conduct military analysis on the vessel.

Unbeknownst to the Gorn and Orions, the Treana had been afflicted by an anomaly that exhibited the Jinoteur Pattern. Starfleet Intelligence had sent operatives Bridget McLellan and Cervantes Quinn to copy the sensor log of the freighter and then use a computer worm to erase it. McLellan and Quinn had used the Gorn currency of szekets to buy information on the freighter and tracked it down to the city of Tzoryp.

McLelland and Quinn were scouting out the old shipyard that the Treana was stored in when the Klingon Imperial Intelligence agent Goloth destroyed the freighter by explosion. This act of sabotage caused an interstellar incident between the Gorn Hegemony and the Klingon Empire. (VAN - Declassified novella: The Stars Look Down)
