Tristas was a planet located in the same system as Quodar in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant. It is located within reach of the Klingon Empire and is the homeworld of the advanced Tristian civilization.
History and specifics
In the 23rd century, Tristian scientists discovered the life force within the planet and believed that an ultimate lifeform would one day hatch from their planetary egg. Afraid that the life energy would be harmed if it became known to other worlds, Tristians isolated themselves and refocused their society into tending to the life force.
In 2266, a magnetic storm disabled the passing shuttlecraft Galileo, which was carrying James T. Kirk, Pavel Chekov, Christine Chapel, security officer Manning and Admiral Tailen Kahn to Quodar. The shuttle crashed on Tristas, but the deep moss softened their landing. Robots brought the shuttle crew to the capital city where they were forced to care for the moss. Kirk negotiated for their release, and Spock took them to Quodar aboard a starscout.
During his time on Tristas, Kahn felt a momentary contact with the life force, which expanded his consciousness. He later considered returning to Tristas to help with their work. (TOS comic: "The Final Truth")
