Tristians are an advanced civilization native to the planet Tristas.

History and specifics[]

Tristians developed advanced technology that included anti-grav devices and robots, as well as being able to convert the moss covering their planet's surface into whatever materials they needed, such as glass and metal. Their culture was singularly focused on learning the secrets of life. They lived in city-states under the authority of the Tristian Ministry of Science.

In the 23rd century, Tristians discovered that their planet was a hollow shell containing a vast field of primordial life energy forces. A group of scientists contacted it and merged into a group consciousness. Becoming paranoid, Tristians cut themselves off from other worlds in order to protect the life force, even with neighboring planet Quodar. Their society refocused into a mission of tending to the life force.

In 2266, the shuttlecraft Galileo crashed on Tristas, but the spongy planetary moss absorbed the brunt of the impact. James T. Kirk, Pavel Chekov, Christine Chapel, security officer Manning and Admiral Tailen Kahn were arrested, taken to the capital city, and compelled to help care for the moss. After learning about the life energy, James T. Kirk offered the protection of Starfleet if Tristians would be willing to share their scientific knowledge with the Federation instead of remaining isolated, and the shuttle crew were allowed to depart with Spock aboard a Quodarian starscout.
