For other uses, see Icarus.

The UNSS Icarus was a United Nations starship, a Columbus-class sublight vessel in United Nations Solar Fleet service in the mid-21st century.

Service history and disposition[]

The Icarus became famous for being the first Earth vessel to reach Alpha Centauri after a six-year voyage (2042-2048), and establish first contact with the native Alpha Centaurans. (TOS reference: Spaceflight Chronology, TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)

This data point, as with much of the 21st century history described in Strangers from the Sky, was contradicted canonically by the TNG movie: Star Trek: First Contact.

By the 23rd century, the famed Icarus had been placed on display at the UFP Aerospace Museum-Smithsonian Annex on Luna. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)
