The USS Ajax was a 24th century Federation starship, an Olympic-class research vessel[1] in Starfleet service in the 2340s decade. Its commanding officer was Captain Benoi. (TNG - Starfleet Academy novel: Deceptions)
Service history and disposition[]
A light cruiser bearing the name USS Ajax was active since the early 24th century, a member of the 23rd century Apollo-class. This ship was named for two heroes from Greek mythology, Ajax of Salamis and Ajax of Locris, who fought in the Trojan War on Earth. (ST reference: Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed.)
This vessel remained in active service into the 2360s. (TNG episode: "Chain of Command")
In the 2340s, Captain Benoi was in command of the Olympic-class counterpart. In the year 2341, the Ajax ferried a group of cadets from Starfleet Academy, including Data, to an archaeological dig on Arunu. (TNG - Starfleet Academy novel: Deceptions)
Legacy[]
A Defiant-class destroyer named USS Ajax was active in the 2370s and participated in battles against the Borg during missions led by the USS Enterprise-E under Captain Jean-Luc Picard in 2376. Lieutenant Commander Data served as helmsman aboard the Enterprise at the time. (ST video game: Armada)
