The USS Ajax II (NCC-2010) was a Federation starship, an Excelsior-class battleship in Starfleet service in the 23rd and 24th century. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)
- The registry NCC-2010 was also used in SA video game: Starfleet Academy for the USS Roma with no explanation why the registry might be used for both ships. The Roma might represent a situation where this ship had undergone a renaming, or the registry was simply used for both ships. It is also possible the two vessels do not exist in the same continuity, and the contradiction between the FASA RPG and the Interplay games represents an alternate history.
Service history and disposition[]
Ajax II was commissioned and launched on reference stardate 2/2904 (mid-2290s decade) as a mark II class XIII transwarp battleship. This vessel remained in existence in the year 2365. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)
- Although canon Star Trek never described the "transwarp drive" experiments of the late 23rd century as being successful upgrades, many ships in FASA RPG sources were described as transwarp vessels. This can be reconciled by assuming whatever upgrades took place became integrated in the warp drive capabilities seen in canon and as such, were not commonly mentioned, and perhaps were only marginally effective to the point they didn't bear mentioning. It is also possible that the advent of the "transwarp fleet" and the problematic designation as a "battleship" could be interpreted to represent a different continuity or alternate history.
