The USS Akagi (NCC-62158) was a 24th century Federation starship, a Rigel-class heavy scout in Starfleet service in the 2360s decade. Akagi was named in honor of the Japanese aircraft carrier AkagiWP. (TNG episode: "Redemption", ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia)

Service history and disposition[]

In the year 2367, Engineer Nagurski transferred from the Akagi to the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG comic: "Wet Behind the Ears")

In 2368, the Akagi was one of 23 starships that formed part of a tachyon detection grid, when Captain Jean-Luc Picard established the network along the Klingon-Romulan border in order to expose the Romulan's involvement in the Klingon Civil War. During this event, the Akagi worked in conjunction with the USS Hornet to create a hole in the network thus allowing an opportunity to entrap Romulan vessels making use of the gap. (TNG episode: "Redemption", Part II, ST website : StarTrek.com)

In 2373, Crewman 1st Class Joseph Kirby was assigned to the Akagi. (TNG video game: Starship Creator)

In 2374, the Akagi was part of the Starfleet 9th Fleet headquartered at Deep Space 9. (DS9 episode: "You Are Cordially Invited") Later that year, after a battle with the Dominion Forces, the Akagi reported 20 MIA and 1 KIA. (DS9 episode: "In the Pale Moonlight")

In 2374 and 2375, the Akagi reported numerous casualties after fighting against the Dominion. (DS9 episodes: "In the Pale Moonlight", "Image in the Sand", "The Siege of AR-558", "What You Leave Behind")

By the 25th century, this ship was no longer in service, having been succeeded in name and registry by the Armitage-class USS Akagi-A. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)
