In 2266, the Ahkiel, under the command of Captain Whitsitt, was assigned to Vanguard in the Taurus Reach, and was part of the squadron defending the station from a hostile fleet at the time the Organians imposed a ceasefire between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. (VAN novel: Open Secrets)
The Akhiel accompanied the Constitution-class heavy cruisers USS Endeavour and USS Defiant on a mission to drive Klingon forces off of Golmira, a low-tech planet where a Shedai conduit had been discovered. (VAN novel: Precipice)
