The USS Alexander was a Constitution-class Federation starship under the command of Captain Lucas Rayner in service in the 23rd century. It was commissioned at stardate 5961.1.

In an alternate timeline when Doctor Ies Bredell succeeded in destroying Earth and the Federation, the Alexander was heavily damaged as it was sent into a time warp. The ship traveled eight days into the past, and was encountered by the USS Enterprise. Captain Rayner warned the Enterprise crew that a weapon was being constructed at Espoir Station which would be capable of destroying Earth. However the strain of time travel, coupled with the damage the Alexander sustained in the destruction proved to be too much, and the Alexander exploded.

When Captain James T. Kirk, Commander Spock, and Doctor Leonard McCoy prevented the weapon from being used, the timeline in which the Alexander was destroyed was erased from history. The Alexander was sent to secure Espoir Station, and from their perspective met Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew for the first time. (TOS computer game: Star Trek: Judgment Rites)

The ship was named after Alexander the Great.
