The USS Archimedes[2] was a 23rd century Federation starship, a small survey vessel[1] in Starfleet service in the 2230s[2] decade. Its commanding officer was Captain Rodolfo Eagan[1]. (DSC episode: "The Sound of Thunder", DSC novel: Die Standing)
Service history and disposition[]
In the year 2233, the Archimedes operated near the Tagantha star system. At the time, Lieutenant Philippa Georgiou served aboard under the ineffectual Captain Eagan. The ship encountered an Orion freighter inside the border of the reclusive Troika after responding to a distress call. (DSC novel: Die Standing)
In 2239, Lieutenant Georgiou took the Class C shuttlecraft SHN 03[3] to the surface of Kaminar, home to a pre-warp civilization, to make first contact with Saru. Georgiou offered Saru to join her on the Archimedes, at the price of abandoning his homeworld forever. Saru accepted and eventually joined Starfleet. In 2257, he recalled the encounter with the Archimedes science officer. (DSC episode: "The Sound of Thunder")
