The Artemis was named for the historical figure Artemis.
In the year 2253, the Artemis was under the command of Captain Daniels, with Lieutenant JG Spock as his third officer and science officer. That year, Spock left the Artemis, having been promoted to lieutenant and reassigned to the USS Enterprise as chief science officer and second officer.
