The USS Asimov (NCC-1652) was a 23rd century Federation starship, a Malachowski-class light cruiser in Starfleet service in the 2270s decade. Its commanding officer was Captain Erin Blake. (TOS novel: The Higher Frontier)

Service history[]

In 2278, Commander Montgomery Scott transferred from the USS Enterprise to the Asimov. The Malachowski-class vessel was an older model compared to the Enterprise, and a light cruiser. Scott fulfilled the role of the chief engineer aboard both vessels.

Lieutenant Commander Nyota Uhura, also of the Enterprise, signed on the Asimov as chief science officer. Asimov's next mission was to serve as mid-sized research vessel chasing subspace density anomalies.

In 2279, the Asimov was part of Admiral James T. Kirk's task force, established to relocate the New Humans to the Medusan Complex and out of reach of the genocidal Naazh.

In that year, the Asimov was to rendezvous with the civilian transport Yggdrasil en route from Deneb Kaitos IV to the Medusan Complex. A Naazh starship attacked the Yggdrasil, causing a warp core breach before the Asimov arrived. Fortunately, Captain Blake could rely on her experienced engineer Scott to rescue the Yggdrasil survivors from the transport's escape pods.

Later, the Asimov was transported into the "weird universe either time" within the Medusan Complex, to deliver the New Humans to the refuge planet Ceto. Again thanks to Scott's ingenuity, the ship held its own in the Battle of Ceto with the Naazh. (TOS novel: The Higher Frontier)

By the early 2280s, Commanders Scott and Uhura had returned to the Enterprise. (TOS - Mere Anarchy novel: The Darkness Drops Again)
