The USS Asimov (NCC-1691) was a 23rd century Federation starship, a Constitution-class heavy cruiser in Starfleet service by the 2250s decade. Its commanding officer was Gan Laikan. (Last Unicorn RPG module: All Our Yesterdays: The Time Travel Sourcebook)

Namesake[]

Isaac Asimov was a 20th century Human science fiction author from Earth. Asimov postulated the positronic brain. (TNG episode: "Datalore")

He also wrote about the potential for first contact. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)

The USS Asimov, NCC-1691, was named after Isaac Asimov. (Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual)

Starfleet operated a Malachowski-class starship, also named the USS Asimov (NCC-1652), around the same time. (TOS novel: The Higher Frontier)

From 2255, Captain Gan Laikan, a Centauran, was Asimov's commanding officer. Under his command, the starship charted more class M planets than any other starship in the 23rd century. (Last Unicorn RPG module: TOS Core Game Book, Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual)

Legacy[]

Following his service, Laikan became a politician and ascended to the post of President of the United Federation of Planets in the early 24th century. (Star Trek Adventures module: Core Rulebook)
