The USS Barnard (NCC-10007) was a 24th century Federation starship, a M'Benga-class rescue/hospital ship.

History[]

This vessel entered Starfleet service on reference stardate 2/8708, and remained in active service until at least the 2360s decade. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)

The name of the hospital ship continued in the 2370s with a later vessel, the Rigel-class USS Barnard. (Last Unicorn RPG module: The Price of Freedom)

Background[]

The Barnard was named, like the other ships of its class, for Human doctors and medical scientists of history. This vessel was named for Christiaan BarnardWP, performed the first heart transplant operation.
