The USS Buenos Aires was a 23rd century Federation starship, a Miranda-class cruiser in Starfleet service in the 23rd century. It was assigned to operations in the Taurus Reach in 2266. (VAN novel: Open Secrets)
In 2267, the ship was assigned to monitor covert activity in the Reach related to organized crime. It was damaged later that year when Vanguard came under attack by the Shedai Wanderer. (VAN novel: Precipice)
In 2268, along with the USS Akhiel and the USS Theseus, the Buenos Aires which had been assigned to Vanguard on a interim basis had been reassigned by Starfleet Command to missions of equal or greater importance. (VAN novel: What Judgments Come)
Later that year, the Buenos Aires was one of five Starfleet vessels that defended Vanguard from an attack by a Tholian armada. During the battle, the already badly damaged frigate took several hits, losing its shields, phaser banks and warp drive. Captain Jarvis declared his ship "FUBAR" and, disregarding orders from Captain Atish Khatami of the USS Endeavour to take cover behind her ship, made a suicide run into the densest cluster of Tholian ships, destroying them all.
