The USS Caspian (NCC-5507) was a Federation starship in service to Starfleet, decommissioned sometime prior to 2357.

History and specifications[]

USS Caspian asteroids

Caspian navigates the asteroids.

During the late 2350s, it was used in Starfleet Academy training missions, where the Caspian would be set adrift within an asteroid field, and cadets would be charged with rescuing it and its (assumed) crew. (TNG comic: "Thin Ice")

Background[]

Although DC Comics was not affiliated with FASA Corporation, they did use elements of the defunct FASA role-playing game in some comics. The Larson-class (refit version) was occasionally seen in FASA RPG sources, such as the Federation Ship Recognition Manual and the Starship Tactical Combat Simulator, before being featured as the Caspian in this Star Trek: The Next Generation Annual. Artist Matt Haley correctly depicted the ship as the refit version, and drew a bridge scene background to mimic the bridge set of the Star Trek: The Original Series.
