The USS Challenger was a proposed Federation starship, ordered for possible construction and Starfleet service at some point after the mid-2340s decade.
History and disposition[]
Construction of Challenger was authorized by Starfleet for appropriation sometime in or after the year 2346. The name derives from several named vehicles from Earth and earlier Federation history.
Possible classes[]
The initial proposal to assign this name to a vessel could be applied to a Federation transport, Federation colony ship, Federation construction ship, Miranda-class cruiser or Oberth-class science vessel. The name might also have ended up being optioned for a Defiant-class escort or an Intrepid-class cruiser. (ST video game: Infinite)
- There is a chance in each campaign of Star Trek Infinite for a ship of this name to be spawned of each of the aforementioned classes, assigned randomly. It is also possible for the name to be assigned to multiple different vessels over the course of the same campaign's gameplay.
In the interim, other Challenger vessels were built, including the Excelsior-class USS Challenger, Galaxy-class USS Challenger and Sovereign-class USS Challenger.
