The USS Charger (NCC-4000) was a Charger-class Federation destroyer starship in Starfleet service in the late 23rd century.
Service history[]
Charger was built either at the Salazaar Shipyard or Saturn shipyards and was commissioned in the late 2270s, on reference stardate 2/2007.04. The prototype of her class, she was the first Starfleet vessel to incorporate a type FWJ-1 warp engine, which gave the vessel a cruising speed of warp ten and maximum speed of warp 12.
On her maiden voyage, she set the record for longest sustained emergency speed by a Federation starship, at 12 hours, 6 minutes, 15.2 seconds. The record stands as of reference stardate 2/2306. Charger patrolled the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone, later joined by 11 other Charger-class destroyers. (Stardate Magazine vol. 3, Issue 1: "Federation Charger Class Destroyer")
