The USS Constellation (registry NX-1974, later NCC-1974 and NCC-2500^[2]) was a Federation starship, a Constellation-class cruiser in Starfleet service from the late 23rd to mid-24th^[2] centuries. When commissioned in 2275, she was the prototype for a new class of starships. (TOS - Rihannsu: The Bloodwing Voyages novel: Honor Blade)

Service history and disposition[]

The first Constellation-class starship was named in memory of the original USS Constellation, which was commanded by Commodore Matthew Decker and lost in battle against a Preserver-created^[4] doomsday machine in the year 2267.^[5]

The Constellation was commissioned under experimental status in the year 2275. The Constellation was soon followed by the USS Sempach and the USS Speedwell, with construction beginning soon thereafter on the USS Stargazer and the USS Hathaway. In the year 2293, the Constellation, with her NX registry, was a participant for certification trials. (TOS movie: The Undiscovered Country)

By 2409, the name USS Constellation (NX-1974-D) was again carried by a Constellation-class cruiser. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
