For other uses, see Copernicus.

The USS Copernicus (NCC-640) was a Federation Oberth-class scout in service to Starfleet in the late 23rd century.

Service history[]

In the year 2286, soon after the Whale Probe departed Earth's orbit, the Copernicus returned to Earth and was docked within Earth Spacedock. (TOS movie: The Voyage Home)

In 2291, around stardate 8812.1, the Copernicus was ordered to rendezvous with the Constitution-class starships USS Endeavour and USS Enterprise at Starbase 40. (TOS comic: "Split Infinities")

The Copernicus was named for Nicolaus CopernicusWP, who developed the heliocentric theory of the solar system.
The Star Trek Encyclopedia lists the Copernicus' registry number as NCC-623, although it can be seen as NCC-640 on screen in The Voyage Home.
