The USS Cumberland was a Federation Starfleet runabout active in the late 24th century.
Service history and disposition[]
In the year 2379, Cumberland was assigned to the Tezwa rebuilding effort. The Cumberland served as a quick response vessel, carrying a group of training Tezwan peace officers alongside Starfleet security officers. (TNG - A Time to... novel: A Time to Heal)
By 2384, the Cumberland was attached to the starship USS Enterprise-E as one of the Sovereign-class starship's auxiliary craft. In July, it had its phaser arrays and photon torpedo launchers removed in order to safely navigate the energy cloud surrounding the Machine. Piloted by Ensign Allison Scagliotti, the runabout successfully delivered an away team to the Machine's surface to sabotage it, but was severely damaged after the team was attacked and Scagliotti was ordered to retreat. (TNG - Cold Equations novel: The Body Electric)
- Although the vessel's class wasn't specified, given the series and time period it was likely a Danube-class. Although never mentioned as such in the novels, the USS prefix is also speculation.
