The USS Curie[3] (NCC-81890[1]) was a 24th century[2] Federation starship, a Merian-class[1] scientific explorer[2] in Starfleet service in the 2380s[3] decade. Its commanding officer was Captain Xin Chan[1]. (VOY novel: Children of the Storm)
Service history and disposition[]
Vessels bearing the name USS Curie were named after the historic Human scientist Marie Curie. (VOY episode: "Darkling")
A Nebula-class science vessel named USS Curie operated in the 2370s decade. (ST video game: Armada II)
The Merian-class scientific explorer entered service in the year 2377. (SOTL - Ships of the Line calendar: 2012, Centerfold)
In 2381, the Curie, under Captain Xin Chan, was refitted with a quantum slipstream drive and assigned to Project Full Circle: a Starfleet expeditionary force into the Delta Quadrant led by Rear Admiral Willem Batiste and Captain Afsarah Eden from USS Voyager. (VOY novel: Full Circle)
The Curie stood apart from its Merian-class sister ships in the fleet by having its pair of warp nacelles attached above and below the ship's centerline, respectively. (VOY novel: Unwürdig)
Months after February 2381, the fleet split up for separate assignments. At the time, the Curie had a crew complement of 72. The Merian-class USS Planck was lost during a second contact attempt with the Children of the Storm. (VOY novel: Children of the Storm)
Lieutenant Juana was the chief science officer of the Curie. The Curie, along with much of her crew, was declared missing in action after the ship was lodged in a rift between normal space and the Omega Continuum. The USS Esquiline, USS Quirinal, and USS Hawking joined her. The Omega crisis was resolved with the sacrifice of q and the ships. Seven-hundred eighty-five people were lost during this mission. (VOY novel: The Eternal Tide)
Legacy[]
In the aftermath of these massive losses, the leadership of acting Fleet Commander Kathryn Janeway was called into question, and later reaffirmed. (VOY novel: Atonement)
By the 32nd century, Starfleet had commissioned the USS Curie-J, the eleventh vessel to bear the name and NCC registry number. The Curie-J operated from the hidden Federation Headquarters space station in the 3180s. (Shipyards reference: Starfleet Ships 2294 - The Future)
