For other uses, see Daedalus.

The USS Daedalus (NX-129, later upgraded to NCC-129) was a Federation starship and lead ship of its class. Daedalus was a Daedalus-class explorer in service to Starfleet in the 22nd century.

The Daedalus was recommissioned as a Federation Starfleet ship in 2162. (ST reference: Ships of the Line, Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual)

In the 25th century, the USS Daedalus carried the registry number NCC-150 and was classified by the Khitomer Alliance as a temporal science vessel. (STO website: Agents of Yesterday: 23rd Century Ship Stats)

History[]

Upon the creation of the Federation Starfleet, Director Chinua Abute, the man in charge of the new fleet, offered the Daedalus (under construction at the time) to one of the six captains of the early Starfleet: Aaron Stiles, Connor Dane, Alonis Cobaryn, Hiro Matsura, Bryce Shumar, and Michael Hagedorn.

The refit of the Daedalus was completed in 2161 at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, and Captain Hiro Matsura became the first commander of the Daedalus and her crew of 230. Out of all the candidates, Matsura was chosen largely due to his ingenuity, which he demonstrated in finding the solution to an alien attack during a Starfleet joint mission to the Oreias system. (ST novel: Starfleet: Year One)

By 2165, Malcolm Reed had gained command of the Daedalus. In that year, Daedalus became the first Federation starship to visit Organia, though the crew was confused at the seemingly primitive society's nonchalance about the Starfleet presence. The ship's helmsman was Georges Picard. (ST reference: Federation: The First 150 Years)

From 2411 onwards, the Daedalus represented its class on the shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Khitomer Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - The Iconian War missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "The Hunt is On", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Background[]

The Daedalus's name and registry was included on graphics in the software for ST video game: Legacy that did not end up in the final version of the game. Had the ship's name been included, it would have referenced the vessel as having been active in the Earth Starfleet in the year 2159 with the registry NCC-170.
