The USS Dauntless (initially NX-01-A, later NX-47700) was a 25th century Federation starship, a tier 6-rated Dauntless-class experimental science vessel and a prototype of its class in Starfleet service from the 2410s decade. (STO website: Delta Rising: Tier 6 Starships - Dauntless)

Service history and disposition

Precursor and namesakes

USS Dauntless of Species 116 in 2374.

Arturis of Species 116 used particle synthesis to create a fake Federation starship, the Dauntless-class quantum slipstream drive ship USS Dauntless (NX-01-A) in 2374 to trick the crew of USS Voyager. Voyager took detailed scans before Arturis directed the Dauntless into Borg space, where it faced assimilation. (VOY episode: "Hope and Fear")

Starfleet had commissioned their own Dauntless-class by the 2380s. In the year 2384, Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway served as commanding officer of the USS Dauntless (NCC-80816) during the search for the missing USS Protostar, another prototype with an advanced propulsion system, the protostar drive. The new Dauntless resembled the NX-01-A but included changes in shape. (PRD episode: "A Moral Star")

Operation Delta Rising

When Starfleet later returned to the Delta Quadrant as part of Operation Delta Rising, the Dauntless class was revived as a genuine Federation starship. As part of the operation, the Starfleet Engineering Corps built a real USS Dauntless (NX-01-A) and launched it in 2410. The registry number was later amended to NX-47700. From that year onward, the Dauntless represented its class on the Starfleet Shipyards Operations interfaces across Federation shipyards and other allied facilities across the galaxy. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Escalation")

Later service

The Dauntless in 2554.

The Dauntless remained active in the 26th century. During a front in the Temporal Cold War, the Dauntless fought the Sphere Builders in the 2550s. In 2554, the Dauntless was part of a Federation fleet led by the Universe-class dreadnought USS Enterprise-J in the Battle of Procyon V against the Temporal Liberation Front. The Dauntless was among the ships drawing Sphere Builder and Krenim fire away from the Enterprise while the Tox Uthat was integrated into the dreadnought's systems by Captain Montgomery Scott. After the Enterprise fired the quantum phase inhibitor and destroyed the Tuterian spheres, the Delphic Expanse-like transdimensional space dissolved. The remaining Sphere Builder and Krenim forces defended TLF leader Noye and his flagship, the Annorax-class science dreadnought KIV Annorax from the Federation forces.
