The USS Defiant (NCC-1764) was a Federation Mayflower-class starship in service to Starfleet in the mid-23rd century.
In 2258 of an alternate reality brought about by Nero's interference, the Defiant was destroyed by the Narada during a mission to investigate a lightning storm in space in the proximity of Vulcan.
The USS Enterprise narrowly avoided colliding with the wreckage of the Defiant as it came out of warp. (TOS novelization: Star Trek)
- The alternate Defiant was never given a class name onscreen. While the film's features show studio size charts describing the Defiant as roughly the same size as Enterprise, the perspective of an effects sequence in the film itself showed a chunk of the Defiant hull that appeared much larger than the Enterprise.
