The USS El Dorado (alternately registered NCC-1722 and NCC-1724) was a Federation starship, a Constitution-class heavy cruiser in Starfleet service in the 23rd century.
The construction of the El Dorado as a class I/class IXA was authorized by Starfleet appropriation on stardate 3220, and she was assigned the registry number NCC-1722. (TOS reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual)
El Dorado was built and had entered service by reference stardate 2/0109, configured as a mk II Bonhomme Richard-subclass vessel, with assigned registry number NCC-1724. El Dorado was later refit to mk III (Achernar-subclass) specifications around stardate 2/0212, and later refit to Mk IV (Tikopai-subclass) specifications around stardate 2/1202. In the year 2261, the El Dorado conducted a follow-up visit to the Chyrelkan system. (TOS novel: Renegade)
At some point prior to 2264, James T. Kirk served as first officer aboard the El Dorado. He brought this up in conversation with Number One, after meeting her during his first "unofficial" tour of the USS Enterprise, in the hopes of finding a commonality with her. (TOS comic: "All Those Years Ago...")
The El Dorado was refit to the Enterprise-subclass specifications, outfitted as an advanced heavy cruiser (CA+), by the 2280s decade. (ST video game: Starfleet Command)
- No history or fate is established for this vessel in Starfleet Command as its name was randomly assigned to a cruiser vessel by the game software.
