The USS Emden (NCC-1856) was a Federation starship. She was a Constitution-class heavy cruiser in service to Starfleet in the 23rd century. (TOS movie: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

History[]

Between 2292 and 2293, the Emden, under the command of C. Thomas, was assigned to patrol the Neutral Zone between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. During the Khitomer Conference, the Emden was in Sector 21803. She had been selected by Starfleet Intelligence for additional support in Operation Retrieve, a planned offensive for the rescuing of USS Enterprise-A officers Captain James T. Kirk and Doctor Leonard McCoy from the prison planet Rura Penthe. (TOS movie: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual)

Appendices[]

Background[]

The Emden was represented by the silhouette of a refit Constitution-class starship. The name of her captain and her sector location in 2293 were provided from a page of the plans not seen in the movie.
The Emden was either named for the city in northern Germany or one of several German cruisers of the early 20th century.
Decipher roleplaying game supplement states that this vessel may be a Ranger-class starship.
