USS Enterprise (CV-6) was an Yorktown-class aircraft carrier of the United States Navy in the mid-20th century.
Service history and disposition[]
In the 1930s decade, the Enterprise was constructed at the shipyards in Newport News, Virginia. On 12 May 1938, she was commissioned. (The Official Fan Club Magazine Issue 61: "Enterprise: A Timeless Legend")
Enterprise was commanded by Captain Osborne B. Hardison in the early 1940s. The Enterprise participated in nearly every major engagement against Japan during World War II, and became the most decorated ship of that conflict. Among the engagements the Enterprise took part in was the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands. (ST - Enterprise Logs short story: "World of Strangers")
On 14 May 1945, a Japanese kamikaze airplane crashed into the aircraft carrier, nearly disabling her. For the rest of that year, she served as a troop carrier, then in January 1946 she was permanently docked. (The Official Fan Club Magazine Issue 61: "Enterprise: A Timeless Legend")
The highly decorated carrier was nicknamed the "Big E". In 1947, she was decommissioned and eventually sold to Japan for scrap. (TOS novel: Final Frontier)
Alternate timeline[]
In an alternate timeline in which Nazi Germany had conquered much of the eastern United States by the year 1944, the Enterprise was destroyed. Alicia Travers assumed that Jonathan Archer was a sailor who managed to escape before she sank. (ENT episode: "Storm Front")
