"But you tell me, Captain Kirk, if you really are captain of the Enterprise now, how's my ship doing?"
- - Robert April, 2259.
The USS Enterprise was a Federation starship in service during the late 2230s in the alternate reality created by Nero's temporal incursion into the 23rd century. This Enterprise existed subsequent to the Enterprise (NX-01) and prior to the USS Enterprise launched in 2258.
The ship was under the command of Captain Robert April in the 2230s. In 2239 the Enterprise conducted a routine survey of planet Phaedus IV and it's inhabitants. Seeing how Shadows were oppressing non-shadow Phaedans, April decided to remain behind to help them. With the assistance of his first officer Alexander Marcus, April faked his own death, and left with a good deal of weapons and technology to help the Phaedans.
The Enterprise continued to serve in Starfleet until the 2250s, when it was decommissioned. This Enterprise was succeeded by the Constitution-class Enterprise which eventually was commanded by Captain James T. Kirk. (TOS - Countdown to Darkness comic: "Countdown to Darkness, Number Two")
Although the given timeframe of the ship's launch date is the "2230s", it's very unlikely that the Enterprise could have launched at any time before stardate 2233.04 (January 4th, 2233), the day the alternate reality was formed. The ship's history from the prime reality indicates no starship named Enterprise existed between the Enterprise (NX-01) and the original USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) making this ship a byproduct of the new timeline. The starship classification of the USS Enterprise isn't given though it's external configuration resembles that of a Constitution-class ship which wasn't introduced until the mid-2250s of the alternate reality. Additionally, Robert April mentioned he had been captain for ten years in 2239, suggesting he may have commanded another vessel prior to the Enterprise.
