The USS Erebus was a Sovereign-class starship that was present within the United Federation of Planets Starfleet that was active in the 24th century. It served as the personal ship of Admiral Eric Mueller who was the Commander-in-Chief of the Federation Starfleet who was only a few months in his posting at the time. At that time, the entirety of the Milky Way Galaxy was suffering the random detonation of warp cores that was actually the result of the Totality's entry into the galaxy.
As the Totality entered the galaxy, its influence began to spread at the time when the USS Erebus was en route from Vulcan six days ago when the warp core suddenly breached. Unfortunately, the core could not be ejected and the ship exploded leading to the presumed death of all personnel on the vessel including Admiral Mueller. This was a great loss to Starfleet as they lost one of the leading members of Starfleet Command as a result. (TOS novel: Captain's Glory)
