The USS Excelsior (NCC-42037) was a 25th century Federation starship, an Excelsior II-class cruiser in Starfleet service in the 2400s decade. (PIC episode: "The Star Gazer")
Service history and disposition[]
In the year 2401, Elnor, the first full Romulan cadet at Starfleet Academy, was assigned to the Excelsior. Before his departure from Academy grounds, Elnor visited a hallway with commemorative plaques of Starfleet ships, including the 23rd century Excelsior-class prototype USS Excelsior (NCC-2000).
His friend, Commander Raffaela Musiker, had herself assigned to the Excelsior to keep ELnor out of trouble through his Way of Absolute Candor philosophy.
Around the same time, the USS Stargazer investigated a spatial anomaly discovered by the USS Avalon. When a Borg ship emerged from the anomaly, the Excelsior was part of the armada Starfleet built up to reinforce the Stargazer. Commander Musiker spoke with Admiral Jean-Luc Picard aboard the Stargazer via comms. When the Borg Queen boarded the Stargazer, the Borg Collective attempted to seize control of the fleet. Picard self destructed the Stargazer to stop the Borg and save the armada. (PIC episode: "The Star Gazer")
The destruction was undone in the aftermath of a time travel incident. Admiral Picard worked with Queen Agnes Jurati to organize her ship and Picard's fleet into a defensive bubble when a harmful anomaly appeared that then transformed into a transwarp conduit. The Excelsior was part of Jurati's fleet formation. Cadet Elnor helped realign the ship's shields. With the immediate threat contained, Queen Agnes offered to remain with her Borg as the "guardians of the gate". (PIC episode: "Farewell")
The Excelsior was later one of the ships assimilated by the Borg, but the crew managed to retake control of the bridge. As the captain sent a distress call which was picked up by USS Titan-A, the automated systems took the Excelsior out of formation and into the firing line of the rest of the fleet which destroyed the ship. (PIC episode: "Võx")
In the year 2411, the Excelsior-class was categorized as a tier 6 intel heavy cruiser. At the time, the ship was equipped with a yet-unproved technology, the experimental power redirection. In combat, this allowed the Excelsior to force additional energy through its weapon arrays. This technology became a standard for its sister ships in 2411. (STO website: Ascension: The Excelsior II!)
