A different Excelsior.
Throughout the history of the universe, there have been multiple prototypes, timelines, alternate realities and parallel universes that have contained versions of the USS Excelsior (NX-/NCC-2000), as well as various duplicates. (ST - Myriad Universes comic: "The Last Generation", TOS video game: Shattered Universe)
Excelsiors[]
Duplicates[]
In an alternate timeline where Terra Prime devastated San Francisco during the Coalition of Planets talks in 2155, United Earth remained outside the Interstellar Coalition. By the year 2264, Earth Starfleet was developing the UESS Excelsior at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. (TOS - Myriad Universes novel: A Less Perfect Union)
Besides the Excelsior that ultimately gave shape to the Excelsior-class, Starfleet experimented with two- and quad-nacelled prototypes in the 2280s decade of the prime universe. Each of these ships visited Earth during their service. (The Official Starships Collection Issue 152: "USS Excelsior"; The Official Starships Collection Issue 158: "USS Excelsior"; The Official Starships Collection Issue 164: "USS Excelsior")
In the year 2293, the crews of the USS Excelsior and the ISS Excelsior accidentally swapped places. (TOS video game: Shattered Universe)

Final moments in 2293.
In a timeline where Captain Braxton engineered the destruction of the Federation following a disrupted Khitomer Conference in 2293, the Excelsior under Captain Hikaru Sulu became the last active Starfleet ship resisting the Klingon Empire. (ST - Myriad Universes comic: "The Last Generation")

Andorian battlecruiser.
In another version of the 2290s where the death of Surak prevented the Vulcan Reformation, the Andorian-dominated Interstellar Union commissioned the Excelsior-class battlecruiser instead. Commander Hikaru Sulu was in command of such a battlecruiser, the IUES Kumari II. This Excelsior class visually resembled the Kumari-class battleship instead of having a twin-nacelle/saucer configuration. (ST - Myriad Universes novel: The Tears of Eridanus)
