Ufp-emblem

The USS Farragut (NCC-1702) was one of the original twelve Constitution-class starships constructed in the 2240s, and went on to serve Starfleet well until the 2300s.

Construction History

Construction began on the USS Farragut at the Puget Sounds Yards, Earth, on September 8th 2245, just over two months after its sister-ship, the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) was launched on shakedown cruises. Construction was completed in August 2247, and the Farragut began a number of shakedown cruises, under Captain Nechema Rabin, before being commissioned and beginning its first five-year mission in February 2248, again under Rabin's command. (USS Enterprise Heavy Cruiser Evolution Charts and TOS novel: Vulcan's Forge).

Service History

The Farragut successfully returned from her first five-year mission in 2253, and Rabin stepped down as captain. Captain Garrovick assumed command and took the Farragut out on her second five-year mission in early 2254. Over the next three years the Farragut made contact with numerous races and charted hundreds of planets including Modala, and Neural. (TOS comic: "The Modala Imperative"; and episode: "A Private Little War").

In 2255, the Farragut was ambushed by six pirate vessels native to Epsilon Canaris III. Although outnumbered six-to-one, thanks to a young tactical officer, named James T. Kirk, the Farragut escapes to Starbase 7 for repairs. (TOS novel: Crisis on Centaurus).

In 2257, the Farragut was surveying planet Tycho IV, when they were attacked by a dikironium cloud creature. The creature was impervious to phaser fire and overwhelmed the ship's defenses, leaving 200 crew (including Captain Garrovick) dead. Lieutenant Kirk assumes command of the Farragut and set a course for the nearest starbase. (TOS episode: "Obsession"; novels: My Brother's Keeper, #2: Constitution, The Ashes of Eden, and comic Debt of Honor).

Following the encounter on Tycho IV, the Farragut was refitted and began a third five-year mission from 2258 to 2263. In 2263, Captain Kelly Bogle, who had served on the Farragut under Garrovick, assumed command. After a brief repairs and shore leave the Farragut left on a fourth five-year mission in 2264. (TOS novel: The Rings of Tautee).

In 2267, the Farragut was one of several starships ordered to the Romulan Neutral Zone by Admiral Iota. (TOS novel: Web of the Romulans).

In 2268, the Farragut docked at Starbase 11 for repairs, when they were called away to the Klingon agricultural colony on Signi Beta. On arrival at the colony the Farragut joined forces with the Enterprise and the IKS Klothos, commanded by Kor, and repelled the Narr. (TOS novel: Day of Honor, #4: Treaty's Law).

Shortly after, the Farragut once again assisted the Enterprise in rescuing over 2,000 survivors from the Tautee system following its destruction. (TOS novel: The Rings of Tautee).

The Farragut returned to Earth in 2269, and Captain Bogle stepped down as commanding officer, and was replaced by Captain Phillips, who took the Farragut on its fifth five-year mission. Later that year, the Farragut participated in wargames with the USS Exeter and the Enterprise, which was testing experimental warp-powered shield technology. (TOS novel: First Frontier).

After years of faithful service, the Farragut was decommissioned in the early 2300s, following the launch of the Excelsior-class USS Farragut (NCC-14421). However, the Farragut was not scrapped, it was given to Magna Roma after they joined the Federation, and was renamed USS Centurion. (TNG novel: The Captains' Honor).
