- The registry NCC-2005 was also used in the FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual for another Excelsior vessel, the class XIII transwarp battleship USS Potemkin. The Potemkin might represent a situation where this ship had undergone a renaming, or the registry was simply used for both ships. It is also possible the two vessels do not exist in the same continuity, and the contradiction between the FASA RPG and the SFC games represents an alternate history.

During an era of militaristic tension, Fearless was equipped as a battlecruiser (BCE). (ST video games: Starfleet Command II: Empires at War, Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates)
- No history or definitive fate is established for this vessel as its name was randomly selected for a battlecruiser by the SFC games' software. The problematic use of the term "battlecruiser" applied to a Starfleet vessel might also represent an alternate history from canon Star Trek.
